8 Ways to Move Clips in Premiere Pro (Every Method)

1. The classic drag
You probably know how to do this, nonetheless, I had to include it to cover every method.
To move clips in the timeline all you have to do is to drag & drop them where you want them.
2. Lasso Select Clips
This basic method lets you select and move multiple clips simultaneously.
- Click on the gray area, hold and drag your cursor over the clips you want to select.
- Now, simply drag all the selected clips where you want them.
3. Move All Clips with Command/Control + A
Ideal for repositioning the entire timeline.
- Press Command + A on Mac or Control + A on Windows.
- This will select all clips, allowing you to drag everything at once.
4. Move clips to the right
This method moves every clip from a selected point to the end of the timeline.
- Enable the Track Select Forward Tool, alternatively press shortcut A.
- Click on a clip in the timeline, and all clips to the right, including above and below tracks, will be selected.
- Now, simply move the selected clips by dragging them.

5. Shift-Click for Specific Clips
Shift-click lets you select and move only certain clips.
- Hold Shift and click each clip you want to move.
- Once selected, drag them to your preferred spot in the timeline.
6. Frame-by-Frame Movement
For precise clip positioning, use this method to move clips frame by frame.
- Select the clip and hold down Alt (or Option on Mac).
- Press the right arrow to move one frame forward and left arrow to move one frame back.
- Hold Shift along with Alt/Option to move in increments of five frames.
If it it does not work for you go to Premiere Pro > Keyboard Shortcuts, search for “Nudge”, go to Timeline Panel, and look for Nudge Clip Selection Left (or right) One Frame.
- Assign a shortcut to those two.

7. Move clips up/down a track
It’s also possible to move (nudge) the clips up or down a track in the timeline.
To do this go to Premiere Pro > Keyboard Shortcuts, search for “Nudge”, go to Timeline Panel, and look for Nudge Clip Selection Down (or Up). Assign a shortcut to them, and click on OK.
To move the clips up and down, simply, select the clips you want to nudge and press the keyboard shortcut you assigned.
8. Move & Insert Clips Without Overwriting
Easily rearrange clips without affecting surrounding timeline content.
- Hold Control (or Command on Mac) and drag the clip to its new position.
- If you want to keep other tracks static, hold Alt (or Option on Mac) along with Control/Command to move without shifting adjacent clips.
